Regional Badminton Officer
Hi Everyone,
I am the BADMINTON England Regional Officer for Cornwall & West Devon. Recently new in post, I and am thoroughly enjoying my new role. I have quite a big patch to cover but am managing to get out to meet with Club Volunteers, Coaches, Leisure and Sports Centre Managers, Schools, Colleges and Local Authority Leisure & Sports Development Teams. Don't worry if you haven't seen me or if I haven't been in touch with your Club or Organisation yet - you are probably next on my list!
The vision for badminton in the South West is 'to establish a sustainable infrastructure for the sport of badminton that is capable of transforming the increased profile and interest generated from the UK hosting the 2011 World Championships and the 2012 Olympic Games, into improved performances and regular, retained participants'.
As a result of this vision, the following strategic aims have been identified:
- To consistently produce high performance players that ultimately achieve medal success at World and Olympic level,
- To increase the number of people playing badminton regularly in the South West
- To deliver a sustainable and tangible legacy from London hosting the 2011 Badminton World Championships and the Olympic Games in 2012
My priorities for the next 12 months are to support the Community Badminton Networks (CBNs), County Association, Clubs, Coaches, and Volunteers, to make a positive impression on the South West vision, significantly impacting on the second strategic aim - TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE PLAYING BADMINTON REGULARLY!
Badminton is a fantastic sport and can be played by all ages, of all abilities. It is already one of the most popular sports in this Country, but we want more people to play badminton more regularly and take part in organised, social, fun pay & play sessions, to join established badminton clubs, to play competitively in leagues and local competitions and to have the opportunity to reach the standard of play they want to reach.
'PLAY BADMINTON'
From September there will be many more opportunities to play badminton across the County - look out for further information in your local community and always check the Badminton Page on the CSP Website
