SW Coaching Conference 2007

South West Coaches Conference,

Over 350 delegates from a wide range of sports, attended the annual regional conference. With guest speakers - such as Vice Chair of England Netball Heather Crouch, and Olympic medallist Steve Backley OBE . The theme of the conference concentrated on developing, building and sustaining all levels of sport and physical activity through coaching.

The day included lots of interactive workshops and concluded with an ‘Any Coaching Questions’ session, hosted by John Inverdale, who was joined by a panel of top names including, former England Rugby International Phil de Glanville, Kate Howey MBE, TeamBath, British Judo Association - National High Performance Coach, and Joslyn Hoyte-Smith former Olympic medallist, now English Institute of Sport Performance Lifestyle Consultant.

Steve Backley OBE commented:

“Its great to be here today and witness how the transfer of knowledge and best-practice has evolved from the physiotherapists’ waiting room to inspiring networking and practical workshop sessions that we experienced today.”

Phil de Glanville, head of delivery at Sport England South West added:

“This event was about inspiring our coaches from all over the South West. The quality of the coaching experience is crucial as to whether or not someone continues to take part and develop in sport, and for us to create a more active nation.”

Organised by sports coach UK the conference was a great success and gave many opportunities to share good practice and exchange ideas.
