NBG Forum 9 April 2008

CSP holds the first NGB meeting for sports in Cornwall

30 Sports set to work with Cornwall Sports Partnership on improving clubs and coaching!

On Wednesday 9th April 2008 Cornwall Sports Partnership (CSP) hosted the first ever National Governing Bodies (NGB) Forum at their offices in Truro.

Representatives from Fifteen different sports* attended on the day varying from Surfing to American Football with a further 16 sports also showing an interest but unavailable on the day.

Mike Thomas, CSP Strategic Director shared the CSP Delivery Plan with the sports and how the CSP had a focus on supporting community clubs and coaches and therefore supporting local NGBs.

The morning started with NGBs working in small groups to identify ways the CSP can support their clubs and coaches with generic workshops and courses and finished with lunch and the opportunity for NGB Officers, who at times are very isolated working on their own all over the county, to network with each other and share areas of good practice.

The final conclusion from the morning was that it was a much needed forum for NGBs to all meet together and look at ways to engage people in sport and a healthy lifestyle. A future meeting date was set for July 2008.

Any NGBs or individuals representing a certain sport who didn’t attend on the 9th April and wish to be involved please contact Tim Marrion, CSP Services Manager on 01872 323338 or email tmarrion@cornwall.gov.uk
