Young Cornish skaters need you and your wheels for a world record attempt!

Calling all skaters (and non skaters)! A group of young folk from Portreath in Cornwall have just launched a campaign to get as many people as possible involved with their fundraising, world record Epic Ollie attempt.  Due to take place at The Track, near Redruth, Cornwall, on Saturday 4th April 2009, the Epic Ollie is the first record attempt of its kind and promises to be an event to remember.

Fed up with getting ticked off for skating round the village, the young group from The Barn Youth Club in Portreath decided to take some serious action and a plan was hatched to raise the funds to build a brand new skatepark at The Track venue between Redruth and Portreath.

In order to help them on their way to raising the money and sponsorship for the project, the team are organising the Epic Ollie with the aim of getting as many people as possible, on skateboards, to ‘Ollie’ simultaneously.

The Barn crew are currently working on ways to raise sponsorship for their skatepark and on marketing ideas to get the word out to as many people as possible so that hundreds of people turn up to the world record attempt on the 4th April – the first day of the schools Easter holiday.

With workshops throughout the day teaching the art of the Ollie for those a little under prepared for the record attempt and other entertainment offerings such as live music, skate and bike demos, the team hopes to raise the profile and some money, to help them on their way to building their very own skatepark at The Track.

Jacob Oduwole, a member of the Barn Youth Club in Portreath says, “We’re really excited about this world record attempt and want as many people as possible to come along and help us out. It’s all about raising money for a new skatepark that we can get to easily so we don’t have to skate around in the village. We wanted to do something for ourselves and for other people in the area and with all the skaters around it seemed to be the obvious thing to do. Things don’t happen if you don’t get up and do them yourselves, which is why we are organising the Epic Ollie, to raise awareness for our campaign - it’s going to be BIG!”

The Barn crew are looking for people on wheels, so whether it’s mum, dad, uncle, auntie, brother, sister, or cousin who’s an Ollie virgin, bring them along and a team of pro-skaters will teach them all the skills they need to participate.
