Surf Life Saving GB National Championships
Surf Life Saving Great Britain have been inspired to create an exciting opportunity to get national recognition and profile for Surf Lifesavers everywhere with a whole host of activities planned this summer during the Surf Life Festivals
14th – 17th August: Nipper & Youth National Championships, Gyllyngvase Beach, Falmouth
20th – 23rd August: Open & Masters National Championships, Tolcarne Beach, Newquay
The events promise to be a true spectacle and festival of fun, sport and learning for all ages; putting surf life saving firmly on the map and in the public eye!
The championships alone are a real crowd pleaser displaying the best life saving sport. But, there will also be a traders village; open participation sports such as volleyball, swimming, rugby and football; a beach bar and barbecue; beach cinema; free running workshops; and interactive and cheer zones for children.
In recognition of Surf Life Saving GB’s role at the heart of many South West communities, a partnership has developed with L2012 Team South West to deliver a community sporting event to involve and inspire everyone, both living and holidaying in the South West, in the Olympic ethos and spirit of the Games. It is with this objective that we hope to achieve the endorsement of the 'Inspired by the Flame' brand for the event.
Joining us on the day and supporting the events will be Henri Lloyd, Cornwall Sports Partnership, Cornwall College, TC Group, First Great Western and South West Water, sponsors of the Nipper/Youth National Championships!

Gyllyngvase Beach, Falmouth: 14th – 17th August, sponsored by South West Water
The Nipper and Youth Championships will form part of a packed programme of Shoreside events that take place alongside Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week, the 2nd largest Regatta in England. Surf Life Saving GB is bringing together 1000 of its youngest members from around the country, to take part in this fun, competitive display of skills and equipment used in life saving rescues.

Tolcarne Beach, Newquay: 20th – 23rd August
The event held in Cornwall’s most famous town will include four days of Life Saving Sport, Open and Masters, and National Championships. 500 of the country’s top Life Saving Sport athletes will battle it out to win the coveted national titles individually and for their club.

Festival organisers enthuse: "Surf Life Festivals are set to become a national event programme not to be missed. Life Saving Sport athletes will benefit from a well run competition programme and enhanced event profile with, amongst others: finishing arches, banners and flags, along with branded vests for this year's finalists.
"We are working with Cornwall College to host interactive and education zones, and Cornwall Sports Partnership to hold an open participation sports programme. We have created a trade village for both events and to improve the social aspect, we have organised an event bar area, beach cinema, awards stage and even some after parties! We hope to have a considerable amount of media attention from both events and have also organised for an event DVD to be filmed and available to buy after the event.
"Surf Life Festivals will raise the profile of our athletes, clubs and our national profile, provide us with fantastic new fundraising opportunities, event partnerships and the platform to make Surf Life Saving a household name.
