A lucky youth hockey group in Penryn has recently received some expert tuition from England and Olympic hockey player, Calum Giles.

Hockey champion Calum Giles has been regularly visiting ‘Get into Hockey’ to take a lead on their training sessions at Penryn College. His visits have been made possible by ‘Sporting Champions’; a national scheme that brings world-class athletes face-to-face with young people.

The ‘Get into Hockey’ project is for girls aged 11 to 14 and has been set up as part of ‘Sport Unlimited’, a national Sport England initiative specifically for semi-sporty young people to try something they ordinarily wouldn’t have either the chance or confidence to do. With funding from Sport England, the project is run by Falmouth Hockey Club and supported by the Cornwall Sports Partnership.

There are currently over 70 Sport Unlimited projects running across Cornwall, offering taster sessions in a variety of different sports; from swimming and golf, to rock climbing and paddlesurfing. For further details, please click here.
