In the most exciting final of the event, British Shooter Aaron Heading came tantilisingly close to claiming a medal place. Having already triumphed in a shoot off to make it to the final, he shot a solid score of 21 amongst some of the legends of the sport of trap shooting. He was on course until he missed his last target to finish on 142, just one clay short of the Bronze Medal.

Czech shooter David Kostelecky, matched the score of China's Xiaokai Yu to see them tied on 143 overall. However, it was Kostelecky who blinked first in the shoot off giving the Silver Medal to Yu.
Alexey Alipov of Russia produced a phenomenal round of 23 to earn him victory with a total score of 144.

Commenting on his fourth place, Aaron Heading said "it was great to have such a fantastic reception from the crowd in the stadium - I could really feel the vibe".

Peter Underhill, Chairman, Organising Committee: “It’s been three years in the planning and has been a great success.  As well as Aaron’s great result, we have had top level shooting of the highest calibre with splendid performances by the British Team. Elena Allen won the bronze in the Ladies Skeet and Peter Wilson made it through to the final of the Men’s Double Trap, finishing fifth. It is a great stepping-stone in the run up to the London 2012 Olympics as we have given invaluable experience to our athletes, our referees and our jury members. This is a fantastic catalyst for our sport.

"I really would like to thank UK Sport from all in British Shooting, home and abroad, for their most generous financial and technical support, without which this event would just not have happened.  I only hope that we have repaid their trust in us, both with our performances on the field and with our management of the event as a whole.

"We have invested in the infrastructure at Southern Counties Shooting Ground with a lasting legacy that includes a grandstand, electronic scoreboard and enhanced communications. This has been matched by significant private investment.

"We have brought the world’s shooting family to Dorset and they are extremely happy. This has been a great success and I now want to build on this momentum and bid for more World Cups and continental championships as we have the facility and excellent partnerships to achieve these prestigious events.”
