Kids get beach active @ Surf Life Festival

Youngsters on Tolcarne Beach with the Sports Partnership & Plymouth Argyle reps

Last week youngsters from across Cornwall had the opportunity to celebrate all that is surf lifesaving with two beach activity days organised by the Cornwall Sports Partnership.

In celebration of the Surf Life Festival being hosted in Cornwall, the beach activity days offered 8 to 13 year olds the chance to get involved at Tolcarne Beach in Newquay on August 20 and 21.

The action-packed days were run by qualified sports coaches from the Cornwall Sports Partnership and saw over 40 children take part in the activities, which included: beach cricket, tag rugby, football, ultimate frisbee, volleyball and, of course, surf life saving.

There was added excitement on the second day as the youngsters received some expert training tips from experienced coaches from Plymouth Argyle Football Club, during an organised 3-Aside tournament. The lucky winning teams received match tickets for home games in the upcoming season.

Laura Harper, Community Coach at the Sports Partnership enthused: “It was a fantastic couple of days and we were really lucky with the weather, which meant that the kids could have a go at everything we had planned.

“We’re delighted Surf Life Saving GB asked us to get involved as it gave us the opportunity to give kids the chance to take part in a whole host of beach activities they’d never tried before. And, needless to say, everyone loved their training session with Plymouth Argyle!”
