Cornish-based Olympic cycling heroine at Bissoe Bike Hire
'Cornish-based Olympic cycling heroine Wendy Houvenaghel delighted local cyclists and families alike at Bissoe Bike Hire on Sunday afternoon when she proudly showed off the silver medal she won in the Individual Pursuit in
Beijing.
Wendy, who lives in Bodmin, happily posed for photographs, signed autographs and answered questions about her Olympic success and her build-up to it. It was a unique opportunity for the many cycling enthusiasts present to meet one of the stars of the hugely successful Team GB Cycling Team and to congratulate Wendy in person.
Bissoe Bike Hire was a fitting venue for the wonderful reception organised by Richard Pascoe of Bike Chain Ricci who coached Wendy in the early days of her cycling career and now works tirelessly to promote cycling throughout
the County and to help future generations of potential Olympians.' said Peter
Edwards who is one the management team of OneandAll cycling the countywide cycling organisation.
Our aim with OneandAll is to show case what we can do for cycling in Cornwall having Wendy is the ultimate accolade for us. Inspector John Trott chairman was delighted with the turn out and the total access all the clubs had to Wendy including Audax Kernow Penzance Wheelers falmouth wheelers and Camel valley members from each all had their photo with their heroine. I am particularly pleased how the children were absolutely inspired.
The final word was from Mark Pilcher I can only see this as a springboard for more activity we have planned for cycling in the county and we look
forward to producing the next olympic champions from Cornwall or the next energetic future generation of people.
