Active Penwith Sports Awards - Congratulations to the winners!

Active Penwith

The first ever Active Penwith Sports Awards were held on Friday 13th March 2009 at St. Johns Hall, Penzance.

It was a great evening to celebrate the successes and achievements of the clubs and sports in Penwith. The evening was opened by Martin Tucker, Director of Penwith College who gave a consice introduction. The first performance on the night came from three groups from The Big Dance Company, Sweet Flava, Tricky and Vintage Punk who danced their socks off and really entertained the audience. Part way through the awards cermemony we were also treated to a demonstration from Touchgloves Muaythai Kickboxing, which displayed the expertise and atheleticism of the fighters from a variety of ages.

Neil Caddy was the compere for the evening and introduced all the nominees. All of which were completely deserving of their recognition, however winners had to be chosen and they were:

Under 18 Volunteer of the Year - Katherine Sharp

Young Sports Leader of the Year - Ben Robinson

Under 18 Team of the Year - Mounts Bay Angling Society Junior Section

Under 18 Sportsman of the Year - Isaac Ashley

Under 18 Sportswoman of the Year - Tass Swallow

Volunteer of the Year - Phil Rowe

Coach of the Year - Chris Barrett

Team of the Year - Mounts Bay Pilot Gig Club Mens A Crew

Club of the Year - Hayle Runners

Sportsman of the Year - Wayne Davey

Sportswoman of the Year - Julie Kitchen

Lifetime Services to Sport - Jan Bragg

Several of these winners will be put forward for the Cornwall Sports Awards to be held later in the year.
