SiS Community Volunteering - Student Guidance

If you are involved in Step into Sport and want to gain more experience, take part in different opportunities, and build your knowledge base in sport then Community Volunteering is your next step.

Community Volunteering could involve anything from coaching, sports admin, officiating to helping out at events. It’s about being involved with a local sports club, group or organisation and giving them some of your time and expertise whilst gaining new skills, confidence and recognition for your self.

Community Volunteering differs from the school based volunteering that you may already be involved in through helping out with school sport and is about getting outside of your school walls and developing yourself as a person in a new environment.

Community Volunteering can take place at a sports club or group that you already know or at a placement that has been identified for you. If you already know of a club or an organisation where you can volunteer then start your Community Volunteering here, this can often provide you with the best experience.

If you want to explore new opportunities but don’t know where to look this is where Cornwall Sports Partnership can help you.

The Referral Form for Community Volunteering Placements is your chance to tell us what type of volunteering you want to get involved in and where. By simply filling in your details and interests we can start to get a picture of what type of volunteering you are interested in. Then with the help of your school mentor we will support you into a Community Volunteering opportunity where you can start to build up your Community Volunteering hours and experience.

You'll find the referral form below for you to complete and is for students who are committed to Community Volunteering. By completing this form Cornwall Sports Partnership will begin to search and match you with potential Community Volunteering opportunities.

If you are interested in finding new opportunities then complete the form as fully as possible and return it to Leadership Coordinator, Cornwall Sports Partnership, Penweathers Centre, Tresawls Road, Truro, TR1 3LD.

What happens next?

Once your completed form has been received by Cornwall Sports Partnership a suitable Community Volunteer opportunity will be indentified to best match your interests and sent to you and your school mentor.

How does this work with the Step into Sport Online Passport?

With any volunteering completed you should log all your hours on your Step into Sport Online Passport Log Book. If you haven’t already registered please ask your school teacher to find out how.

The Log Book should be used to record all school volunteering based hours and any community volunteering hours.  If you do any Community Volunteering, either through your own placement or one identified by Cornwall Sports Partnership, make sure you add your placement via the ‘placement tab’ on your Step into Sport passport home page.
