Samara Sobey
Samara Sobey, a Year 11 student at Launceston College was recently selected to attend a one day South West Young Leadership Football Camp at Taunton. This was a new event where the young leaders were given a mixture of experiences, including workshops on coaching youngsters with disabilities, information on planning sessions for different age groups and some practical work.
Samara is a hard working competent leader; she has successfully completed her Level 1 Leadership award, her Level 1 FA Coaching Certificate, Badminton Leaders Award and has ably assisted at numerous Primary Festivals held at the College. Samara has further developed her football leadership skills by coaching at Southgate Colts Football Club on Saturday mornings and is part of the coaching team at the Mini Soccer Development Centre. She has now clocked up over 50 hours of coaching. Samara has grown in confidence and has developed into an excellent leader.
From this S.W Camp Samara was one of two students selected to represent Cornwall at a National FA Leadership Camp due to take place in July 2009. This will involve a whole variety of learning opportunities around leadership skills, team building and football in general. The event will be run by National FA staff and cover a wide breadth of football disciplines from learning more about coaching and refereeing to sports science and goalkeeping and the 5 a-side game of futsal.
From this camp a number of young leaders will be selected to help organise and run the 2010 Leadership Camp and 2 – 4 leaders will be selected to support the International placement programme and help support and run festivals in Africa.
We wish Samara all the very best for the future in further developing her football leaderships skills.
