Coaching System Support Network
Coaching System Support Networks (CSSNs) are groups of agencies committed to supporting the development of a world leading coaching system, as a central element of a world leading sports system.
Taking a Governing Body centric approach and using the UK Coaching Framework as a key point of reference, the work of the CSSN will help contribute to:
- Enhanced quality of coaching
- Active, skilled and qualified coaches to meet demand
- which in turn will lead to:
- Sustained and increased participation in sport
- Improved performances in sport
CSSNs will achieve this by:
- Taking a strategic, needs led approach to the development of coaching
- Developing and embedding quality systems to recruit, develop, deploy and retain coaches, coach developers and managers of coaches
- Raising the profile of coaching and coaches
- Influencing coaching policy and informing decision making through an evidence based approach
Coaching System Support Networks are:
- Made up of a range of partner agencies with a common interest in and commitment to developing coaching e.g Governing Bodies of Sport, County Sport Partnerships, School Sports Partnerships / Local Development Agencies, Local Authorities, Higher and Further Education establishments, Private Coaching Providers, other coach employers / deployers
- Supported by key support agencies such as sports coach UK, Sport England, Youth Sport Trust, SkillsActive and the National Skills Academy
- Supported by a skilled Coaching Development Manager
- Part of a co-ordinated network at national, regional and local level
- Steered by the UK Coaching Framework as a point of reference
Coaching System Support Networks will benefit coaching and partners by:
- Supporting the delivery of National Governing Body coaching priorities by helping to align national, regional and local priorities and needs more effectively
- Improving co-ordination of approaches to coach recruitment, development, deployment and retention
- Improving communication and networking across and between agencies
- Sharing skills, knowledge, projects and resources between agencies
- Maximising the impact of investment into coaching by co-ordinating resources and ensuring a needs led approach to use of funding
- Aligning the support of key support agencies to meet the needs of coaching and coaches
- Having a skilled professional infrastructure to co-ordinate, facilitate and develop the work of the Network to ensure impact
- Sharing best practice to help raise standards
- Embedding an aligned approach to the development of the overall UK coaching system through the application of a common development framework
This will be achieved through collaborative working, shared goals and through the application of a consistent approach to network development.
Sports coach UK will lead the implementation of the Coaching System Support Network in England and will support development through the provision of technical advice and guidance and quality services, products and toolkits.
The group's VISION:
To create a cohesive, ethical, inclusive and valued coaching system at a local level, where more appropriately skilled coaches are available to support children, players and athletes at all stages of their development in sport.
